As our language study continues we are hoping to start posting some of our favorite little “Thai-isms”, things that we find surprising or amusing about the Thai language. Here is one of our current favorites: “Roong Phak” is a colloquial term for “Police Station”. The literal translation is “Place to Rest”. When we asked our Thai teacher about this he said that it was referring to the jail, or the place where someone who is arrested has to spend the night, but we thought that just maybe there was an implied double meaning…?
